With long term experience in the music industry through performing, corporate workshops and school incursions Stacey and Martin Phillips have teamed up to form Rhythm Fix, a Fremantle based band booking agency and drumming tuition and services provider. As performers and local facilitators they have their ear to the beat of Freo.
They have teamed up with some of their friends; the best WA has to offer in world musicians, drum'n'dance teachers, dancers, street performers, and djs.
Martin Phillips
Martin has been playing drums in his home town of Perth since he was 12 years old. He established, whilst in Art School, ‘The Childlike Primitives’ 1987-1992 a seminal experimental folk rock band. Soon after, Martin helped create ‘Initiation Studios’ from 1990 -1995, an underground art space and legendary DIY recording studio in Perth. This was home to many Perth bands including ‘Arc’ a power pop group in which he played drumkit. He was hungry for more percussion skills and embraced African styles and rhythms while playing Marimba and percussion in the much loved and nationally acclaimed Sundiata Marimba Band for 5 years, 1990-1996. Later, after coming back from a musical study tour of Zimbabwe, he joined the award winning African Music Congress (1997-2001). Martin is praised for his solid knowledge and talent as one of Perth best drum kit and dun dun players (African bass drums) performing over the years with African drum ensemble, Deredjeff Dubar (1995-2003), Mukwa Marimba Band, now with thundering dynamic, drum and marimba ensemble Dunumba (1999-present) and plays drumkit in local Afro dance band, Shangara Jive. Martin has his own electronic dance act ‘Gaiatribe’ and is often invited to play percussion with touring contemporary didgeridoo artists whilst they are in town such as Ganga Giri and AB Digeridoo Oblivion and Si Mulumby. He is also accomplished on Marimba (African xylophone) and Mbira (African Thumb Piano).
